Walnut Canyon National Monument
I bribed Allison and Anna Claire to go on this side trip with me. Walnut Canyon is about 30 miles North of Sedona. This was a small park but pretty neat - 300 steps down and 300 back up to see the ancient cliff dwellings. A little different from Montezuma because we could actually walk inside these dwellings.
The girls made themselves right at home.
Montezuma's Castle
Montezuma's Castle is about 35 minutes South of Sedona. I was able to talk the family into a short excursion with the promise of ice cream at the end. They are great about tolerating my National Park Quest aren't they :-)
The Castle is some of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America - next to Mesa Verde in Colorado. You can't climb into the dwellings but to imagine how they were built is pretty magnicificent.
The girls got their 2nd wind and decided to put on a little Hannah Montana dance show for us.
