The Colosseum
The Colosseum...
I've probably seen Gladiator too many times, but this was part of the trip I was most looking forward too. We went by the Colosseum a few times during our days in Rome, so this post actually spans multiple days. I did book us on the early morning guided tour so we were able to get to all levels inside the Colosseum.
One night in Rome, I decided to walk back down to the Colosseum to photograph some longer exposures. Definitely one of the times I was glad I brought my tripod on the trip!
I think I took more pictures of the Colosseum than any other single structure on the trip. This series probably took me the longest to go through and narrow down the ones I actually wanted to post. Here are a couple of others that I thought were good around the outside of the Colosseum.
"My name is Gladiator..." Yea....I'm a dork :-)
The Vatican
St Peters Basilica Sunset
On our 2nd day in Rome, we spent the morning at The Vatican. I was able to book an early morning breakfast tour and it was well worth it! We had early access into the Vatican Museum with a buffet breakfast in the garden.
Out tour guide through the museum was phenomenal, she definitely knew her history! I apologize to my parents for all the times I complained about going through museums as a kid....yes....I now appreciate them.
They don't allow photography in the Sistine Chapel, but rest assured, it was amazing. They do allow plenty of pictures in St Peters Basilica.
We decided to go ahead and climb to the top of St Peters Basilica, and unfortunately it started raining and lightening so we didn't stay too long.
Unfortunately when it was time to leave the Vatican, the storm set in, and it was WET! We stopped off in the Vatican Post Office to wait it out a bit. And of course the girls decided to go ahead and mail a postcard home to themselves. I believe it took about 3 weeks to arrive.
