Gettysburg & Hershey

We visited the "greater" Washington DC area in the summer of 2012.  The trip started with an excursion to Gettysburg.  Ashlyn, Sarah, and Nana (Sarah's Mom) took a pre trip to visit historic sights in the Philadelphia area.  We joined them in Hershey.

Time for some chocolate...

We took a drive through the Pennsylvania country

Gettysburg National Military Park

Allie and I had planned on stopping at Gettysburg on the way to Hershey for only an hour.  We ended up staying for three!  This park offered much more than we had expected.  The film, museum, and grounds were amazing.  We did the shorter version of the CD/auto tour, but it still took almost 2 hours to complete.  I highly recommend visiting this for any history buffs!

Allie has a moment with the President.

The Gettysburg Auto/CD tour is definitely worth doing!  We opted for the shorter tour (2 hours) and the time was almost not enough.  This is one of the best preserved battlefields and historic parks that I've been too.

The Battlefield grounds are filled with different monuments and memorials.

We timed this just right and happened to be driving by the area during a canon demonstration.

The museum and theatre was simply awesome!  We spent another hour walking around this area.

After the film they take you upstairs above the theatre area.  There you'll find a 360 degree Cyclorama.  You are standing in the middle of a room surrounded by a painting depicting events through the Battle of Gettysburg.  This is a small production - very cool!
